Transportation Services at John F Kennedy Day School
We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students during their commute to and from school. Please familiarize yourself with the following guidelines and procedures to ensure a smooth transportation experience for everyone.
Bus Changes
If your child needs to change their after-school destination, please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Send a note with your child for permission to change their after-school destination.
- Notify the school by sending a note or calling before noon for bus changes.
- After noon, alternative arrangements must be made, and bus changes will not be accepted.
- Students will be transported to their original destination if no changes are made.
- For primary students (Kindergarten through Third grade), if no adult is present at the destination, the child will be transported back to the school, and parents or guardians will be notified.
Bus Rules and Regulations
To maintain a safe and respectful environment on the bus, the following rules and regulations are in effect:
- All buses will have a posted seating chart with each student’s name.
- Students must obey the instructions of the bus driver and monitors.
- All students must remain in assigned seats and keep all body parts inside the bus while transported.
- Any violence, inappropriate language or tampering with bus equipment is strictly prohibited.
- Eating, drinking, and bringing prohibited items on the bus are prohibited.
- Parents or guardians may be held financially liable for any damage caused by student misconduct.
Before and After School
To ensure punctuality and safety, please note the following:
- Students should be at their designated bus stops on time each morning.
- Running, pushing, or shoving at bus stops is not permitted.
- Parents or guardians are discouraged from following the bus in their vehicles.
- For kindergarten through third grade students, parental presence at the bus stop is required for dismissal.
Transportation Infractions and Consequences
We take transportation infractions seriously and enforce the following consequences:
- Minor Infractions include spitting, littering, and minor disruptions.
- Consequences range from warnings to suspension of bus-riding privileges.
- Major Infractions: Includes fighting, possession of weapons or drugs, and endangering others.
- Consequences may result in immediate suspension of bus-riding privileges for the school year.
Infraction Reporting
All incidents are documented, and reports are sent home to parents or guardians. Copies are also filed with the school office and transportation department.
